Monday 6/4/18

Another amazing day of cycling. Leaving Corvallis, the rode snaked thru an agricultural valley. Fruit orchards, strawberries but mostly grass cultivation for seed. Most of the seed we buy in Missouri is from Oregon.

Later in the day after Coburg, I rode alongside the McKenzie River in a beautiful valley of pine Forest and sometimes VERY expensive looking homes.

At Walterville I ran upon my friend Nashant from India. We are closely matched on ability and cycle well together. Two will usually make better speed than one along. I guess just because it is more fun!

It was early evening and we stopped at a small grocery at Leaburg. Once the owners found out we were with the TransAm bike race, they showered us with their late day unsold hot food. What kindness!!

Cycling the 21 additional miles to camp we passed a church and stopped. We thought it had possibilities for stealth camp. The ministers parsonage was next door and he came out to see what we were doing. He was sending us packing till he found out we were with the race. Next thing he is putting us up in the gym. And it was warm inside!

What a day it was; beautiful varied scenery, free food and a warm safe place to bed down. Tommorow early, McKenzie pass looms waiting for us. Hopefully not too cold or steep.
