Sisters to Mitchell
The forest
are now more Ponderosa pine and much dryer terrain. We had snowcapped Mount
Washington behind us.
At Redmond
Nachant and I picked up another cyclist Jake. He is on the way to Ohio and just
happened to be on the TransAm route. He is a young science teacher and was
someone new to help carry the conversation.
At the
Redmond McDonald's we were taking a rest and found out the hard way again why
the strip of grass was so lush. Yes,we got sprinkled on again.
Coming out
of Prineville we entered a broad valley and a gently flowing stream again going
the other way. To get to Michelle we crossed the Ochoco pass. It was a nice
gradual grade so the effort needed not too intense.
The welcome
at the Mitchell hostel was fantastic. They watch the race site and come out
when a racer approaches. Lots of shouting and clanging a cowbell. After 5 days
of free camping the amenities of the hostel was almost overwhelming. And no
getting sprinkled on in the night.
Days milage
about 85.
