Baker City to Halfway
Before
leaving Baker City, I dropped off a Enlace brochure at a Church of the
Nazerine. I have been trying to drop off a brochure in each community we pass
thru. I figure if that Church does not take a current interest, the minister
may pass it off to another.
Most of the
day was spent riding highway 86, the Hells Canyon Scenic Bypass route. It was
breathtaking scenery the whole day! The route was a snaking road that was
sandwiched something between rock walls of the canyon and the Powder River.
Storm clouds chased us much of the day. They did not catch us till we were
safely eating lunch under a grocery overhang at Richland.
Once the
rain was over we saddled up and made it over the final pass and on into
Halfway. I made contact with Bill Shields the minister of Pine Valley
Presbyterian Church. He gave Nishanth and I permission to use their Fellowship
Hall to sleep indoors. It is supposed to be in the 30’s tonight. Towns of just
a few hundred are amazing communities. Building is not locked and happy to have
you use it, said Reverend Shields.
Days miles
about 65.
