Dayville to Austin Junction
Enjoy good
rest at the Dayville Presbyterian Church. They offered shower, laundry and
floor space to sleep. Just wished for a little softer linoleum!
We got a
decent start about 8AM. The route was HWY 26 following the John Day River all
the way to Austin Junction. But the river was flowing the other direction and
finally the Dixie Pass.
Made an
emergency stop for homemade Mennonite cinnamon rolls outside John Day. She
warmed up two for Nichant and I to enjoy there and bungee corded down the rest
for later.
The river
valley was beat scenery and a blue sky with occasional puffy clouds. Modest
tailwind most of the day. We needed it with the steady elevation gain.
The cafe at
Austin Junction was watching our approach on the RaceTransAm site. They stayed
open late to serve us a wonderful supper. There is a pop-up camping trailer
behind the cafe for the racers to use. It will be another comfy night. And no sprinklers!
Days miles
about 60 with 55 being uphill.
