The ride
started with pictures taken and an exciting mass start. This was partially for
safety as we wouldn't get car mixed in with the riders.
The initial
route took us through a beautiful valley with the smell of a flower shop.
We
eventually ended up riding along the coast with occasionally stunning views.
But stunning views often come at the cost of a significant amount of climbing.
The forest
we rode through were impressively large evergreen trees and forest floors tight
with ferns.
We made it
to Pacific City for the night, 110 miles for the first day. We camped at a
simple county campground. A toilet was the only amenity. Not even a sink with
warm water.
Great job Don. Keep those legs movin'!
