Florence to Boone
I had a good
rest on Michelle and Dale couch, our Warmshowers host. As we were preparing to
leave, Michelle overheard Nishanth and Aaron talking about making a post office
stop. We were needing to get rid of extra clothes that were now not needed.
Michelle is an eBay seller for her home business. She immediately started
getting out boxes and we unloaded our panniers of unneeded stuff. This was a
lot more convenient than dealing with later. Michelle even got us best shipping
prices.
Aaron
finished and got on the road. If he could average 115 miles day he could finish
the race. His vacation time was running out unlike my being retired.
Nishanth was
still thinking and organizing when I left. Sometimes it is hard to cull out
what could have a possibility of use.
The route to
Pueblo was nice but a bit sad as the main economy of Canon Ciy is prisons.
Dale's job is teaching prisoners to get their GED. Nishanth had a conversation
that morning with Dale and the the US penal system. We had met many interesting
folks by using Warmshowers and learned a lot.
About 20
miles before getting to Pueblo a storm front blew thru and was coming from all
directions. I finally just got off the bike and held on. A lady stopped her car
to offer any help. I told her I thought it would quickly pass, which it did.
She went on and I got back on the bike. Another trail angel.
Getting into
Pueblo I stopped and gave a Baptist Church an Enlace brochure. I should have
asked the lady about a grocery store location because that was a pain later to
find.
Nishanth and
I ate at a small family Mexican restaurant. Looked like the whole family
including Grandma in back working. I ate one rather large California buritto
and ordered ate a second one. I bet they would like to have more cyclist come in!
We did or
grocery run which took too much time trying to figure out the location. But
fueling is important and shopping part of our daily activity. Not a lot of
storage room on a bicycle. And forget the keep refrigerated or frozen
suggestion! And sometimes even the cook first direction!!
Heading out
of town with heavy bikes we got into very bad wind. We cut the ride to 20 miles
and stopped at the small community of Boone. The city park was nice and had a
very clean bathroom.
But the wind
was still so strong it was blowing our supper of the picknic table. We decided
to sleep up next to the fire department building to get out of the wind. Even
with the security lights on I slept very well.
Days mileage
about 75.
