Eddyville to Sebree
We woke up
at 0530 to a thick fog. I figured by the time we ate and packed it would have
burt off enough to ride safely. That was the case and we started our usual
time.
We had about
35 miles to get to the ferry at Cave-In-Rock. It was a hilly but quiet route
getting us there. Some was thru forest with the trees overhanging the road. A
real sense of solitude as we cycled along. We got to the ferry about 1PM and
crossed over into Kentucky. I would have liked to have taken more time at
Cave-In-Rock and would have if cycling alone. Looked like an interesting place.
Overall the
day was good cycling with bigger hills early and as we got more into the Sebree
area less. It also changed from forested to more big farms, corn and soybean
fields, and finally some horse farms.
At Sebree
the First Baptist Church offers accommodations for cyclist. It was right on the
route. An amazingly nice church and very helpful minister. I mentioned I had
been thinking about baking potatos and asked about a grocery. Tony said their
IGA closed and the other stores sold more packaged goods and not fresh produce.
He went and got me some potatoes from his own supplies.
I ate my
simple meal, did laundry, got a real shower, and slept in air conditioning on a
cozy couch. Life is good when all the essentials are there. Takes a bicycle
trip to get us to that point.
Days miles
about 85 hot oppressively humid miles.
